At Hydra Aquatics, we do not use or recommend the use of coarse sponge materials, as seen in some competing brands. Coarse sponges offer significantly less surface area for beneficial bacteria, fail to effectively trap fine particles, and often release debris back into the aquarium during removal and cleaning. Some brands even suggest using a bag to catch the sponge during maintenance—an unnecessary complication.
