What is Seiryu Stone?
The name Seiryu comes from the mythological constellation Chinese Azure Dragon's blue scales. It is also known as the Blue Dragon stone, Dragon stone, or Yin stone. These aesthetically pleasing stones look stunning in Oyaishi, Soeishi, (secondary stone), and Fujiseki, (tertiary stone) minimalist Iwagumi setups.
As an aquarist, you'll need to know that Seiryu stones do have an effect on the chemistry of your aquarium water. Many aquascaping stones do contain acids, carbonates, and other properties that may cause changes in your water chemistry. Seiryu stone is a metamorphic rock and it slightly or significantly effects the level of pH in your freshwater aquarium. With this in mind, you will want to conduct some research into this stone type before using it in your aquascape. Learn more about our pH test kits and other products.
One way to help counteract the any alkaline buffering capacity of this stone is to utilize driftwood, alder cones, acidic substrate, or almond leaves in your aquarium.
